Can a you unlock a T-Mobile sim locked phone null

This is not an answer but I bought 2 Samsung phones from Best buy in 2018 and was on Sprint, well I have sold the phones now and although Sprint says it is unlocked and even the phone said it was unlocked, the people who bought the phone can not get any sim card to work in it! So Sprint one of the agents said to call Best Buy to unlock it! What the heck!
