“Instructions say not recommend for use of PowerPoint, Excel and Word. Does anyone know if it will work even though it says not recommended? If not, does anyone have a recommendation of one that will show PowerPoints?”

It will display it, but the text may be difficult to read. It's a common problem with projectors at this price point.
