This monitor can be used with a DVR for security cameras, as long as the DVR has a VGA or HDMI output connection which can be used with the monitor. The other factor to consider is the resolution that the DVR outputs, as it needs to be supported by the monitor. You can find an extensive list of the timing tables (Resolution + Refresh rate) in the user guide.
