Yes, the micro usb is for charging. It says it comes with a cable, but I didn't get one with mine. I just plug it into my laptop when needed. If you want to know how charged up it is, press the function button above the usb port 5 times and it will show you how many leds worth of charge you have. A charge lasts a long time. You can download a manual for this remote at the Viper website.
