“Can this be a freestanding monitor that is connected to the internet via WiFi only (No Ethernet cable). We need a monitor in our office to continuously display a status board that we have on Google Drive. It will not be connected to a PC / laptop.”

This can be used as a monitor, and can connect to Wifi, but it won't be able to access your documents on Google Drive unless you have something sending that to the TV via HDMI.
