You do not need wi fi to operate this tv Yes you can turn off wi fi

When I turned the TV for the first time there was a very large firmware update that downloaded and installed. I don't use any feature of my tv that requires internet and see no reason why it wouldn't function with wifi not available. I do; however, recommend configuring internet connectivity upon initial start to update the tv to the latest fixes. After that, not much motivation to connect to wifi; tv should function just fine without that connection. I don't know that you can actually turn off the wifi in the tv but you can have it not connect to any network. TV weight is light so one person can easily move it around.
