Yes, you need to run an hdmi cable from your cable boxes hdmi to tv slot and plug it into an hdmi slot on your tv. Don't use the eArc (hdmi #1) slot, that's for your sound device (sound bar, av receiver etc.). I used hdmi #2 and labeled it cable box, you can do this in the TVs menu under system. The sound will come from the TVs speakers. You'll also want to program your cable remote to the tv, your cable company can help you with this.
