Hello Breeze, Smartcast is our TV's smart platorm wich offers a host of the most popular streaming apps built in. You do not need to use a phone or mobile device to use this TV. The apps are built in and can be accessed with just the included remote. SmartCast also allows you, if you choose, to cast and stream shows and content from your phone using Chromecast or Apple AirPlay, but this is not required to access the smart features of this TV.
