It's useful for finetuning the display and other setting while still watching your content, so you can see the changes happen while you adjust. You can use it to 'Cast' whatever is on the tablet (Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, etc) to the TV. If you are watching cable/satellite, then don't use the tablet, or use the tablet to surf the Internet while you watch cable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. In your use case, watching 80% TV content from a set top box, the tablet will be of little use. Yes, as others have stated you can use to adjust and fine tune your viewing, but seriously, after you've calibrated the TV properly, who adjusts and fine tunes the picture every time they watch a program or movie? Once calibrated properly, you shouldn't need to adjust anything. Ever. If you're watching mostly TV content from a set top box, you should consider a Sony or Samsung as they both do a better job of upscaling the lossy, compressed 720p and 1080i content your cable or satellite provider gives you. If you absolutely have to have a 2016 Vizio, get a Logitech Harmony to control the Vizio & STB.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The tablet is a plague. It comes with a little mini non-tablet remote that you'll want to use to turn it on and select the input, then you'll use the cable box remote for everything else. Just pretend the tablet doesn't exist, because it really sucks.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Except to make picture or sound adjustments, you don't really need the tablet when watching cable, DVR or blu-ray material. It's mainly used when casting from Netflix, Vudu, etc. There is a small, regular remote control that lets you change inputs and turn the TV on or off.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have a Comcast X1 receiver which has its own app. So I installed the Comcast X1 Remote app on the tablet which now handles my TV for casting and also my Cable box. I also have a Pioneer Elite receiver which also has its own app... So basically the included tablet has turned into a universal remote for my setup :D
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I watch primarily thru my TiVo which has the cable card and use my harmony remote to control my home theatre. I haven't used the tablet to control the tv since setting it up initially. But I have used the tablet often as a browser to either look for content or enhance my tv viewing by looking up an obscure reference or two as it easier to handle over my laptop and a bigger screen than my phone.
