“Would this work at a nursing home where we leave the base in my father's room and we stand outside his window to talk? He is not able to use his hands so we need it to be hands free.”

We use it as a one way communication tool with my dad. We can hear him, but he cannot hear us. We leave the base with him and he can let us know if he needs anything simply by speaking. We are unaware if there is a talk back type feature. The 2 companion pieces require you to hold down a button in order to speak.

However, you need to press and hold TALK on the side of the parent unit and speak towards the MIC on the parent unit. Your voice is broadcast to the baby unit and the other parent unit. As for the baby unit, it will transmit sound automatically to the parent unit. Thank you! - VTech Support
