“Is there a way for a parent/guardian to see/hear all the messages , pictures, and recordings that are being sent and received? My concern is that if anything inappropriate is being sent or received it could be deleted and I never see it.”

You control who they talk to with the app on your phone.

When you set up an account, you have to approve the person whom you want to allow your child to send messages too. But from the parent device you can not read their messages.
