The unit has a timer that stops the waterpik after 2 minutes. But, that resets when you turn it off and back on. Since yours doesn't, check that the plug is making good contact in the electrical outlet and you have power to the socket. It's possible you tripped your home's gfci breaker protecting the bathroom. If so, the breaker will need to be reset. If you have power to the outlet and the plug is making good contact, the waterpik is likely defective.
