“I do NOT have a pc with an m.2 slot. Should the firmware be updated before installing in ps5? Should i do ANYTHING with a pc to make this drive more efficient? Are there ANY reports of bad firmware that I should be aware of unlike samsung keeping it quiet”

I would update it to make sure everything is good. Then once you do that your good to go. And there is no reports of bad firmware so you are completely fine
