Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.sure, Gen5 is backwards compatible, at least on the ASUS ATX ROG CROSSHAIR X870E HERO AMD motherboard and chip set. The R/W speeds are still limited by the M.2 Gen 4 SSD, but it will work. Gen5 SSD's are limited to 4TB, at this point in time. It should be possible to install a GEN5 M.2, which will double the speeds. You will need to read the bifurcation tables closely, to figure out which combination of M.2 sockets produce optimal speed and throughput, depending on whether GEN5 or GEN4 memory units are installed.
