Open up your case and pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from. If it is really coming from the drive, get a replacement right away. Dont wait too long before it gets worst. Remember to backup your files. Any louder noise than normal coming from a hdd is not normal.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need to get a replacement, this drive should emit a very low hum when your within about a foot from it in a very quiet environment.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I'm not totally sure what it is but the only thing that should be moving in your hard drive is the cooling fan and your hard drive disk which is encased if the disk is what's making noise it would probably think about a new one before you lose your files.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This is normal mechanical sounds from the hard drive. Mine does the same with a low frequency chugging sound.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you just bought it I would replace it sounds like the heads maybe off and are hitting their stops. HDDs make a growl or whirring noise not a hitting sound. In worst case scenarios a drive will start making a chirping sound this would be the time to backup all data and discontinuing using the drive, or do a warranty claim. Seagate warranty process is amazing, I have never dealt with WDs but I assume they would not let themselves be outplayed by Seagate advanced exchange process and have something similar.
