No, I was under the impression I would be able to do that but unfortunately I needed a computer conduit for the transfer. It is very simple though once you hook both items up to a computer you can just put things right onto the external drive.

This comes with a specific cord to connect it to other devices. On the other end of the cord is a USB port, so I don't think that you'll be able to transfer photos directly from your iPhone because there is no way to connect them. However, you can do this through a laptop:)
