I notice mines makes a clicking sound also. But I only closely paid attention gto this when I was using an USB multi-port and had it connected to this. When using some of these multi-port USBs, although you can hook up to 6 devices into it, it will only allow a few to actually connect at one time. The clicking sound I got was because I had 4 devices hooked to the device so the External hard drive made clicking sounds because it was trying to connect. ..But for your question, First I would try to take it to Geek Squad to see if they can remedy the problem. Maybe there is something wrong with your connection to whatever device you are hooking it up to. But Geek Squad should be able to retrieve the information you seek or maybe even help fix the problem of not connecting. It maybe be something as simple as a Microsoft issues that won't detect the device
