Hi E, Please be informed that WD EasyStore Portable Hard Drive is a plug 'n' play device and has backward compatibility with USB 3.0 devices as well as USB 2.0 devices. The drive comes with USB 3.0 Type-A interface. It is ready to use out of the box for windows. However, if you want to use it for any other operating systems, it needs to be formatted in the supporting file system.
