It makes little noises when the discs are activated like you said. But very small sounds.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.When the drive is not being accessed, it will enter into standby mode, which of course is silent since the drive itself is not being accessed. When the drive is actually being used, it isn't overly loud. From what I've noticed, it is no louder than a computer case fan running at 700 rpm (or roughly about 28db), so it is very quiet. It might become noisy if you are trying to access or copy multiple large files and the drive heads need to jump from sector to sector, then you might hear the audible clicks and whirs as the drive speeds up and slows down rapidly. Overall, I haven't really noticed it making much noise at all when in use.
