• It comes, I believe, with MyFAT confit which allows you to read/write in Mac or PC environments. It is I’n most cases your best option, especially if you use both platforms or share with those who do.

• It is formatted as ntfs (windows). One only has to go to disk utilities and reformat for OS X extended journaled to make it Mac compatible then yes, you can do time machine for backup or carbon copy cloner, etc.
