Sure, this can be used with a MacBook Pro. I have two of them connected to my MBP that I've been using for temporary backup of video and photo files. The drive isn't super-fast or built like a tank, but, if those aren't your needs, then you should be fine. I reformatted the drives before using them with my Mac to ensure optimum performance. Is it the best out there? No. There are drives that are faster (Thunderbolt, larger cache, etc.) and drives that are constructed better (G-Technology, LaCie, etc.) but those cost more. So, if you don't need these things or simply don't ant to pay a premium price, then this drive is a fine choice.
