There are 2 x 8 TB drives included. Its "personal cloud" not "cloud." Note that in order to configure as RAID (to protect against failure) you'll only get 8TB of storage, since the data is duplicated across the drives. You can get 16 TB if you don't want RAID protection.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I highly recommend you ALWAYS keep 2 copies of every file you want to backup. Either keep one on the original source drive on your computer, or if you need to remove files from your PC or MAC because you are running out of room then you should setup this drive as RAID 1 which is same as Mirrored drives. Drives will fail sooner or later and I learned the hard way when I copied files to a backup drive, deleted them from my PC, and then the backup drive went KAPUT! I was SOL at that point and lost a lot of files I wanted to keep which is the reason I got the backup system in the first place. That manufacturer was not Western Digital but I won't say who, however I won't ever buy their product again as when I called for support the guy I talked to asked how long I had the drive and I told him about 2 years, then he replied - "oh you are lucky most of these drives don't even last that long". I could have sent it in and maybe had the info recovered, but it was expensive and also I had very personal info like accounts I would not want anyone to see. Anyway his comment really got me angry because he knew they were selling crap. And it was one of the top Drive makers out there. I've had PCs running 24 hours a day for 5 years and still no problem so I was very disappointed this thing didn't last 2 years. So I highly recommend setting this up as Mirror (RAID 1) if your files are important. I do currently have a WD My Book Duo with 6TB Mirrored and it's been running for about 3 years no problem. My biggest complaint is the backup software. It's really minimalistic. The backup stopped working and it NEVER told me. I thought that was really poor. It should have popped up some warning. Luckily I checked and found it has stopped for almost a month. I had to start it back up. Now I check it more frequently. Also it's really hard to check the logs to see what if any problems you are having. I had to dig around to find the logs and then it wasn't easy to figure out what issues may be occurring. I'm an IT guy and I run intermediate size servers for a company that has high volume of mail and other databases so I'm used to digging but they make it harder than it should be. I hope the improve on the software. Or if someone has a recommendation I'd be happy to know about it. Thanks! BTW Best Buy has been a good source for me. I've bought a lot from them and they support their sales. I was able to return a laptop that did not have an advertised feature and got full credit towards another one that did have what I wanted.
