Hi Gunny, The WD My Passport Portable can be used to backup the data from the Windows 7 computer and to restore it on Windows 10 computer. The hard drive supports WD Backup software which can be used to backup the data from the computer. Please refer to the link mentioned below for more information. I've never used the Windows backup utility. I just copy files or us one of the free file-syncing utilities...FreeFileSync is the one I've been using for the past several years.

Personally I used my extended storage for my PlayStation 4 and currently have no problems with the product. I do recommend this for anyone looking to extend their storage space.
