• Yes. If you bought the hard drive with MAC formatting, it is literally plug and play. If you bought the windows formatted version of the hard drive, you need to reformat the hard drive first. For the extra $4 it costs to buy a MAC formatted hard drive, it is money well spent via time saved (unless you are a techie....)

• You must buy the mac compatible drive, the drives are not equal so double check the packaging. Once done and set up (you can add passwords to your drive) it works seamlessly with time machine.

• Yes it does. It is a Mac specific drive. I use it with Time Machine and did not have to reformat at all.
