• They are not. But you do have to format them accordingly. Especially if you want to use the drive with both a PC and a Mac.

• You just have to reconfigure it if you want to use it for an Apple. I had them do it for me at the Apple Store because they were saving my computer anyway but you can google how.

• The formatting can be different. If you need it for Apple, just format with your Mac and go. Same for Microsoft. There is also a formatting option on your Mac that will work with BOTH!!
