Can you run programs from this hard drive? I want to utilize an external hard drive for more than just file back up. There are several programs on my home business desktop that I would like to move to an external hard drive in addition to the files associated with those programs.

Yes, you can run programs from this hard drive.

Yes. Windows will not boot from a USB drive. Beyond that pretty much any other software can be installed on your external hard drive and run from there.

In my experience an external drive is not a proper way to run programs. It may work for simple programs but I wouldn't want to try to run Photoshop or anything very involved. The problem is that while running a program the drive will be asked to provide information constantly. If I were you I would look thoroughly on the manufactures website to find a proper answer. Or is you are really brave give it a go. I don't think you can hurt anything with am experiment like this.
