“I use Verizon. I think somewhere in looking at various boosters that I need to notify my carrier that I am using a booster. Is this true or can I just install it and use it?”

I called and let Verizon know (with specific identification of our unit) but have to say they didn't sound familiar with having to notify them about this. But they did take my info. IMHO, I really don't know why we had to notify them. We hooked it up for testing before I called. Worked great from the start.
