The Webroot filtering extension (which is a browser add-on) certainly helps control scripts and popups. Additionally, I would suggest Ublock Origin as an additional extension for stopping pop-ups - it is available for free in all major browsers!

You have to get a pop up blocking extension like Ublock Origin which you can toggle to allow or disallow scripts, fonts, large elements, fetching I forget the last feature and I also suggest a tracker stopper/blocker such as Ghostery extension for your browser. You can use both together. They’re both available to use with major browsers.
