But most cable companies now require a rental cable box to receive channels in HDTV 1080p, and some or all of the channels beyond the basic package. The cable box will use one of the 3 HDMI ports, leaving the coax input available for you to attach an antenna for free air channels. (If you decide to try OTA TV on this, you will need to run the channel search for the TV to find the local over-the-air digital channels. I've just recently experimented and it appears that the tuner in TV is designed to work with *very strong signals only. That is great for the people in urban areas with lots of strong channels. Rural areas and / or weak & distant stations require an attic or outdoor directional and amplified antenna like a yagi. I live in a rural area and I use my old Digital Stream DTX9950 box for it's superior tuner, connected via red/yellow/white composite inputs to receive any OTA digital channels on this TV. You could also get a modern DTV converter box that connects via HDMI port. But I am already using all my HDTV ports for cable co's box, a blu-ray player, and a Roku stick. )
