“My kitchen is relatively small and cabinets 12 inches deep. Will this look odd jutting 6 inches? Most microwaves are 15 o/16 inches deep. I am VERY concerned with aesthetics (NOT concerned with practicality); will it look really odd??”

The appearance is different. Best go to an appliance store that has one installed and see for yourself. The full width with square corners is noticeable and the extra three inches changes how you work at the range top. The appearance is great, the adjustment in the working space is likely to matter more initially.
