Yes it is set to self vent. You only need to make modification is you are venting it outside.

Yes, it comes out of the box configured for recirculation exhaust inside. Charcoal filters already there. It's a thin filter that lays on the metal looking filters underneath the microwave. Easy to remove and replace.
