“When the door is open, is the microwave width more than 30"? There is nothing showing a larger width than 30". My range is right against a wall, on the left, so I don't believe this will work if the door opens past the 30" footprint.”

No, the door while opening is 1/4 inch outside the frame, but once fully open it is flush with the base of the microwave. It never gets wider than 30 in total. Microwave itself is ever so slightly shorter than 30.
