“Can microwave can be installed under cabinet ONLY? The back wall have decorative ceramic tiles that I don't want to drill into. 20+yrs ago I did have micro mounted under cabinet no drilling in back wall, model no longer made, tiles would have been ruined.”

The wall plate holds the microwave by having 2 protruding slots that it sits on. The from of the microwave is bolted to the upper cabinet. If you could bolt the rear up as well I could see this working. Installation would not be as easy though. The back plate really lines stuff up well. It also did not come with additional bolts to bolt the back up to the cabinet. The back plate only takes a couple holes and you cannot see them when mounted. I wouldn't worry about the tile.
