• I don't think so. Plus many building codes require that it is plugged in and that it's on it's own circuit. I had to install a box and plug in the cabinet above the microwave to accommodate the installation.

• It requires an outlet. I had to install one in my upper cabinet due to where the power plug exits the unit. The outlet must be higher than the microwave or else the wire can get pinched. Hope this helps
