“Does the depth measurement include the bulge in the back? If so, why does it require an additional 1.5 inches of space for cabinet installation -- especially when the door will extend beyond the cabinet face (to be flush with the trim)?”

Hi Torwald, the overall depth measurement does include everything. The gaps are necessary for the unit to properly intake and ventilate. We hope this helps!
