“What are the racks made of? My current dishwasher has racks that are metal coated with vinyl. Within the first year, they began to corrode. I want to make sure that this will not happen with a new dishwasher.”

Appears to be metal with some sort of plastic coating. Top third rack is all plastic.

Yes they are metal with the Vinyl/Plastic coating. There is a Extra Heat setting with this unit. I have never heard of plastic-vinyl coating melting off, I would guess to Hot,Soap, or cheap model. Check manufactures Warranty about this potential issue. Again never have heard or seen this happen. We absolutely Love our Whirlpool Dishwasher, so quiet & cleans like a champ.
