Thank you! I read the manual & couldn't find any reference to cleaning spills that seeped between the glass & ledge. That darn temperature slider wouldn't let it come loose. Yes. You can reach under via the middle drawer & push up the glass towards the rear.

I have been struggling with this stupid shelf for 24 hrs and can't get it clean. Some of the previous answers indicate that you can get the glass out, others say no. I have tried soaking it in hot soapy water but the stain is still between the glass and the frame. Is it possible to remove the glass in the full shelf or not? If not, why do you continue to make it that way when it can't be cleaned?

According to Whirlpool this self can't be removed - and I can't seem to figure out a way to remove it - but there was a spill, so there is stuff under the glass shelf that is driving me crazy. That's an extremely poor design element if that shelf can't be removed. Honestly..... Won't buy another Whirlpool appliance because of this.

I just had this issue and came here looking for an answer! The bottom shelf glass does not detach on mine but I figured out how to clean it anyways. I put the shelf upside down in the bathtub with soapy water and a small bit of bleach and let it sit. All the stains came out from under the glass after a few hours! Hope this helps anyone else who stumbles onto this thread in the future.

I have a slightly different- older model- WRX735SDBM00, but same issue having difficulty getting the bottom crisper glass shelf out. after removing the large crisper basket I crawled (!) into the open and now empty crisper drawer. After cleaning and wetting the shelf as much as I could, the glass shelf loosened up. After several unsuccessful tries I was able to wiggle with one hand the back plastic shelf support while pushing the back of the shelf up and it came loose. My husband was then able to grab it and remove it. 
For my next fridge I will research the ease of cleaning first!

I read all the suggestions. When the shelf was at room temperature I put it in the sink and pried the 1 1/2" wide white plastic flange covering the visible dried meat juice up slightly with toothpicks. I sprayed this area with white vinegar, let it run under the plastic and let it sit. After that I sprayed this area with warm water. Then my husband removed the two screws from each side and was able to work the flange gently away from the glass. It was really dirty and sticky underneath it but the vinegar had loosened the gunk up and the edge of the glass was easy to clean once the plastic was removed. Reassembly once everything is dry should not be difficult. Now I am wondering what is underneath the other refrigerator shelf flanges! I could not find anything in the manuals about cleaning these shelves other than wiping them with soapy water. That would not have touched the brown stains left by the meat juice that were unreachable but annoyingly visible. This is not a great design. In fact the plastic shelf was partially broken in another area. It was clear that the previous fridge owner had tried to clean it by prying it off.

With the middle drawer open, I lifted the glass from the back. I had to push the back plastic retainer back to lift the glass up. After that you slip it behind the humidity control knob and take it out to clean. You can return it in reverse order.

I have a KitchenAid French door 704. Took over 2 hours, but it's a $5K frig and embarrassing to get compliments only to have company look inside and see the gross glass channel trapping liquids. Was able to loosen the glass running warm water from faucet on room temp shelf while wedging popsicle sticks and bamboo skewers at one inch increments wiggling loose the silicone between the glass and the shelf. The shorter sides were not glued so I was able to access a starting corner. I also tried a heat gun, but did not make a noticeable difference loosening the silicone. Kept towels underneath while working to buffer sharp corners and just in case the glass came out quickly. There is a metal bar with 3 screws on the backside. This bar has nothing to do with the glass so no need to remove.

I was able to use a pressure washer and patiently work most of the stain out. It was then soaked in container for 10 hours and it was better but not perfectly clean. We have already purchased a second shelf and it did the same the thing after time. Very bad design!

Confirmed today, 11Jun23 that the glass shelf can be easily removed for cleaning. Push up at the rearward edge to allow clearance of the temperature slider at the front. We had sticky substance underneath the rear edge of glad that made it seem to be fixed in place. Nor the case…a little gentle pushing upwards and it was ready to come out for cleaning.

I have Whirlpool model WRX735SDBM, 25 CU FT , french doors, middle crisper drawer and bottom drawer freezer. The glass above the middle drawer gets dirty around the out side edges and looks awful. We tried to push it up but couldn't make it budge. We were afraid we would break it. Recently had an appliance tech here to fix icemaker and he removed it. It was just plain old stuck with whatever had seeped under the edges.  A little warm water around the outside edges. Open the crisper drawer and reach all the way to the back and push up. Be patient and work with it, it'll come out.

Yes you can per everyone. Did not notice coke was spilled all the way down to bottom glass until weeks later. The coke made the glass stick in the back like it was glued. Used putty knife to gently lift from underneath after middle drawer plastic insert removal. Cleaned up everything and reinserted.

I have been trying to clean this shelf for months, could not get  the shelf out (it does come out, I finally yanked a bit more today) but discovered a long piece of very strong packing tape holding the glass to the plastic shelf.  Was easy to get the glass out once I took that tape off.  Heads up!  Check for tape!

I have a GE and the same thing. I"m going to soak it w a little vinegar. This SHOULD be covered under extended warranty but they tell me anything cosmetic is not covered. I feel like GE should replace the part. It looks terrible

I have model WRX735SDHZ03. A liquid spilled and seeped under the large glass shelf and now the dried dark goo is looking really gross. The shelf needs to be removed from the back of the frig so it can be tilted up and clear the Drawer Temperature Control. This can be done by placing your hand/arm under the glass via the drawer - best done with a partner.  If the shelf is stuck due to the dried substance, rewet the dried areas with a tablespoon of water - this will soften the substance, and you can proceed with pushing the shelf up from the back of the frig.

I found out how to remove the glass. 
Picture 1 shows the white piece that is pulled upwards about 1-2 inches. Then lift glass slowly. Make sure the edges are clean of any dried up gunk before attempting this.
You can also test your glass by pushing up from the slide out drawer, you will be able to push slightly upward.

The split liquids turn into glue. Use a plastic putty knife and SLOWLY work your way around from underneath. You will have to remove the plastic tub of lower pull out drawer if you have a four door fridge. Take your time so you do not break the glass. It will flex a tiny amount and then it shatters.

Working from the bottom in soapy water, I used a rubber mallet, two thin putty knives, and leap frogged around the perimeter. My big fear was breaking the glass which by dumb luck or skill I did not do. Not a fast solution, it took me close to a half an hour to get the glass loose from the frame. On the good side, my wife is overjoyed with the results.

Hello, the full width shelf is fixed in the refrigerator so it is not able to be removed. The smaller ones are able to be removed by lifting them up and pulling them out of the slots that are holding them in place. Hopefully this information is beneficial to you.
