The answer to this question in my opinion would be NO. If the side by side has a ice maker, and the freezer side was set ther temp as the refrigerator. I believe the ice cubes would not not have a good solid ice cold consistency.

The keypad on the freezer door you can adjust the temp for both the freezer and refrigerator but I do not know if the temp for the freezer will be set to refrigerator temp. . You can call Whirlpool customer service they will be able to answer that question better for you.
