If you are not going to use the ice maker, there is a small wire "switch" that can be pushed up to disable that function. It has to have a water supply connected, although I don't have mine connected. So I just flipped the switch up.

I know there is a lever on the ice maker that you can raise and it won't make ice so I assume if you don't hook up the water just leave that raised and you'd be set. The bin the ice goes into is also fully removable so that would give you back the space lost by that too.
