The machine adjusts water temperature if it is too hot. If the machine senses the water is too hot then yes - it WILL ADD cold water. My hot water tank is maxed out to the hottest setting (I like the availability of very hot water). I set the washing machine to hot and still when it fills, you hear the cold water come on (and you can see the water hoses flinch) and at some point you can hear (and see) the cold water shut off while the hot water is still running. They say this is a government regulation now for all machines. So my hot water never gets as hot as I wish. The designers are just "tho thmart".

I'd constantly have all sorts of clothes twisted, as I tried pulling them out cause they'd be caught sound the middle aggitator
