“We tried several headsets with the headphone jack on Xbox One S, but could not get one to work. I assume it is a bad controller. Can we just return the controller for a new one, or do we need to return the whole thing? Such a frustrating experience.”

It's the jack in the controllers, with these new jacks it makes it a pain.. Your better off going wireless, have had issues with the Jack's in the controller
