“I have a Yamaha HTR 5740 that shuts off ( overheats and says ck speaker wires) when there are exploding sounds when watching certain movies. Will this receiver do the same? Or is it because my other receiver is too old for the newer sounds.”

It is likely that you have speakers that are too low impedance for the receiver you have them connected to, or there is possibly a strand of wire from the positive speaker terminal sticking out connecting with the chassis of your receiver. What gauge speaker wire are you using? What model of speakers do you have connected?
