Yes, it does. I have tried it both ways and I will tell you, it’s better to do it through the HDMI as it has better performance and control with the arc and the controller for source. Through HDMI it will be able to sense what sources the sound is coming from and when you switch sources, it will sense the change and display the source. For example, I have all my components connected to my tv and the receiver is connected to my tv via HDMI with the arc. When I switch my sources on my tv the receiver senses that and displays what source is being used on the readout panel of the receiver. It’s also great at being controlled by the source and tv to the point where I turn off all my components with one button.

All the accessories like DVD player, Cable, PlayStation and another HDMI source are connected to the HDMI output ports on the receiver. The issue is that I am getting the audio signals only through the front left & right speakers when played something exclusively from TV. I was not getting the surround effects or getting any signals on center speaker or surround speakers, unless I change the assignment to ‘BI-Amp’. So I bought an optical audio cable that connected from the TV optical port to the receiver optical port that labeled as AUDIO1, which I thought would take care of this issue. Unfortunately, I don’t get any signals when I change the Audio In as Audio1 after connecting this optical cable. When I switch the ‘Audio In’ back to HDMI2, which is my TV HDMI ARC input it start working but through the front speakers. Any suggestion or recommendation would be appreciated. Thank you.
