• Yes you can. Depending on the type of TV you have, you may need an optical cable in addition to HDMI.

• Yes, you can. My main sound speakers are non-powered and only my sub-woofer is a "powered" speaker. I have my Yamaha amp connected to a Samsung TV using the HDMI arc connection. This works great as I can control the volume through the TV remote and the Yamaha amp powers down automatically when I turn off the TV.
