The system is 5.1 the .1 is for the subwoofer usually it’s two rear, two front and a center speaker that account for the 5 speakers system if the additional speaker your referring to is the subwoofer it will work just fine
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I use the receiver in a commercial space with 6 speakers. I couldn't seem to find a receiver that wasn't geared toward tv surround sound. And I do what you are asking...double them up. Seems to be working fine. Good luck.

Please try again later.Typical 5.1(2) system is 1 center channel, L/R front, L/R rear, with 2 additional L/R side channels for 7.1(2) and 1 or 2 subwoofers (2 is preferred). Older systems often tried to up sell proprietary speaker alignments but the established standards are now 5.1(2) or 7.1(2) and 2 or 4 additional overhead channels for Atmos support (7.2.4).
