Synopsis

Rambo
When a group of missionary aid workers in Myanmar disappear into the vast green inferno, vigilante Vietnam War veteran John Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) leaves his job as a Salween River boatman behind to accompany a group of mercenaries on a daring rescue mission. It's been 20 years since Rambo helped mujahedeen rebels fend off Soviet invaders in Afghanistan, and these days the former soldier lives a simple life in northern Thailand. Meanwhile, the world's longest-running civil war rages into its 60th year on the nearby Thai-Burma border. One day, human rights missionaries Sarah Miller (Julie Benz) and Michael Burnett (Paul Schulze) show up asking Rambo to guide them up the Salween so they can get some much-needed food and medical supplies to the desperate Karen tribe. According to Sarah and Michael, the Burmese military has planted land mines all along the roads leading into the tribe's village, making it virtually impossible to reach the tribe via land. Two weeks after Rambo drops the group off in dangerous territory, pastor Arthur Marsh (Ken Howard) arrives with a chilling message: the aid workers never returned from their mission into the jungle, and the embassies refuse to help Marsh and his fellow missionaries find their missing friends. Now, despite the fact that Rambo has long since sworn off all forms of violence, the knowledge that innocent missionaries are being used as pawns in a brutal war leaves him with no other choice than to venture behind enemy lines on his most dangerous mission to date. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

    stallone at his best

according to the special features, this is the most accurate movie as far as violence goes. i never knew that a 50 cal on the back of a truck can shoot people in half or chop down trees until i saw this. but even if it was unrealistic, its still pretty cool. stallones back in probably one of his best movies to date. npt just cuz of the action and gore, but his performance, the grittiness and reality of the movie and of course its another rambo. now youd think that after like 20 years that a 4th rambo would make a lot more money than it did, but it made more than the box office numders. the openning week, meet the spartans came out and it made like 10,000 more than rambo did. kids bought spatan tickets and snuck into rambo. so really, theres no telling how much it actually made. anyway, theres still a few flaws this time round. they wanted to be as accurate as they could with violence, but they will never accomplish that if 'school boy' shoots people with a sniper and they go flying back 10ft. but stallone is still pretty convincing cuz hes tired, angry, and depressed. that stuff actually happens in burma by the way. and the mercenaries british leader guy cracked my up but does cross the line a bit. tombstone was cool. the great thing about rambo is that its not you routine action movie. its more like die hard where the characters performance really sets the tone for every single sene. and sure rambo isnt all action but its still the best rambo sequel. of course nothing will ever beat first blood but this one comes close. and whats up with the title of the 2nd one:first blood part two. they couldnt just call 2nd blood or rambo 2. anyway with stallone being the director, this gives rambo an extra boost. and for anyone who hasnt seen it, dont judge it just because stallone directed it. and what really sets this installment apart from the other ones, is that he does the best he can to save these other characters and almost fails more than once. and this is one of those movies where you shouldnt go see it just because the trailer was action packed. this is like i am legend. but its only and hour and a half long wich i hated but thats how it is. but what action there is, it is so over the top and sooo intense but still maintanes realism. the best scene without a doubt(not a spoiler) hes on the 50 cal for like 15 minutes rippin the burma army to shreds. just one other thing bothered me other than the run time, and that was the music. yea sure its rambo music but they couldve changed it up just a lil bit. overall it was as good as it could be withouth being cheesey.

This movie is awsome in Blu-ray

This is an awsome action movie to watch in surround sound. I have a yamaha reciever with klipsch speakers and this movie brings them to life as the movie plays in the DTS format. The surround sound makes it seem as though your in the movie with bullets flying and explosions going off all around you. There is also a lot of raining scenes since the movie takes place in the jungle. The sound of the rain is all around you also. The storyline of the movie is o.k. but the action is the most dominant feature of the movie. I have watched this movie both as a DVD and now Blu-ray. I consider the blu-ray version to be the better format even though I have an upconverting DVD player that is suppose to upconvert the DVD to the level of Blu-ray. The action scenes are very gory since there is both a .50 caliber rifle and machine gun used in the movie. Both of these guns are very devestating to a human body in reality which the movie depicts it being. There are body part flying everywhere when the .50 caliber machine gun is used. All in all this is an awsome movie. I would recommend the Blu-ray version of Rambo to anyone and if you don't have Blu-ray then you should watch the DVD version.

The 2-Disc special Edition of " Rambo the fight continues" has to be one of the finest releases on Blu-ray to date! No Joke! The hidef video is superb, with live action sequences remaining crisp and in focus at 16x9, 1080p, showing great depth, color and contrast without loss. The video is only outdone by the audio. A magnificent 7.1 DTS-HD Master audio soundtrack that in my opinion is the better of the 3 hidef codecs. Its loud but does not go soft during dialog, with the center channel remaining strong. Rambo's audio sets the standard that all other Blu-ray discs will be graded by. The extra's on Rtfc are picture in picture (pip) interviews with Sly while watching the main film, with pip popups during certain scenes. The second disc has a digital copy you can transfer to your computer. Rambo the fight continues is a proper end to the Rambo series of films and is definitely my favorite, overall...

The best thing about Rambo is, well, Rambo. Anyone who has ever seen Rambos 1-3 can appreciate this hero. Sly is Rambo, Rambo is Sly. From the opening scene to the final walk down the driveway, Sly delivers the perfect acting. The video was crisp and the sound with 7.1 DTS HD was just awesome. The video quality was exceptional and the sound was crisp. I really felt like I was in the jungle with Rambo. Technically, the movie is a masterpiece. The story was superb. It's everything you'd ever expect from Rambo 2008. The movie closes the loop on our hero Rambo and gives him proper ending. The acting was superb and the cast was spectacular! I am going to watch it over and over and over again. In summary, the movie was realistic and Sly delivers his best Rambo performance ever. A true masterpiece. The movie brought back so many memories that I had to purchase the Blu-ray set of the first three and watch the series in sequence! Good times, good times...buy Rambo as you will not be sorry...action packed and story is rich!

In the latest installment of this is-it-tongue-in-cheek-or-just-stupid series, Sylvester Stallone's Rambo has turned into a slightly less articulate but moodier Incredible Hulk, with biceps the size of hams and a permanent hangdog expression. He's living in southeast Asia these days on a boat, apparently subsisting in make-the-world-go-away poverty. He reluctantly ferries a bunch of naive missionaries upriver into "Apocalypse Now" territory, finds out later that they've never returned, and joins a nasty mercenary rescue mission to find them. Mass slaughter ensues. The free-fire-zone frenzy scenes are pretty well done, if you're into blood and dismemberment, but the real star of the show is what's supposed to be a leftover WW2 bomb that goes off like a plasma torpedo from the starship Voyager. (See, I could have said "starship Enterprise" there, if I weren't so edgy and alt-critic cool.)

This is the most frustrating DVD that I have ever purchased. It would not play in my DVD player nor in my computer's DVD deck. I returned it to the store and exchanged for another copy which the Customer Service lady tested first. And yet, when I got it home this second DVD did not play either. I have never experienced this with any other DVD. I solved the computer problem by downloading the latest driver for my video card. But I still cannot play the DVD in my DVD player. WHY??? I remember when the DVD format was new there were incompatibilities between players and discs, but that was years ago. I phoned Lionsgate's customer service: they said there were no reported problems or recalls for this Rambo DVD. WHAT IS THE ANSWER?? I now know never to buy anymore Lionsgate DVDs and to warn others to stay away from them!!

This is the Best action movie thus far this year.

However be warned. Stallone has directed and depicted the atrocities and the subsequent consequences of him rescuing the people involved with such detail and authentic accuracy that this movie may not be stomached by everyone. Movie is shocking in its unforgiving depiction of warfare and its brutality. Unrelentless action. Brilliant screenplay. Plot that is exciting. Awesome effects. This movie has it all.

The clarity of the Blu-Ray transfer is second to none. The soundtrack is amazing on refernce speakers. This movie is amazing on HDTV.

Please get this release. You will not be disappointed.
