Don't buy this under any circumstances.

Apparently there is an issue at the factory it's manufactured at where the tension cables are tensioned too much and it makes it impossible to use. I'm not the only one that has had an issue with this. No matter what I did or tried, every time I tried to use the arm and position it the arm would stiffen back up completely straight. I broke the plastic on the tension screws on the middle screw the first time trying to tighten it. I even used the tension screw at the bottom but to no avail. I returned and exchanged this one for a new one and this time the bottom screw broke. What a piece of junk. Yet this piece of junk cost 100$. Yeah no thanks, it looks cool but doesn't work at all. Very disappointed and will never be purchasing anything blue ever again.

I used to use this with a Blue Yeti mic and always had trouble with it. Even with the tension set, this arm has randomly sprung up and hit me in the face when moving it out of the way. Stay away from this. Upgraded to the Elgato mic arm and have not had any trouble since.

This boom opened the gates of hell for me.

I bought this because I usually love blue products and decided that one hundred smackaroos would be a fine investment to increase my ease of use. No. This thing was some absolute nonsense. The tension screw did nothing. Adjustments were painful to make. Adjustment of one joint would move the other inversely regardless of your other set pieces, this movement would in turn start to tear the plastic on the mic. Following about an hour of minor adjustments, countless tutorial videos, and a thorough investigation into the instructions, the mic finally collapsed into two pieces due to quick spring and joint movement that would cause stress on the plastic.

Horrible
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Hands down bad all around. I’m using a blue yeti that I got this boom arm for. It NEVER stays were you want it. You really have to tighten down all three areas to get it to try to stay where you want it to. You basically give up and deal with where you can get it to stay. Not even a full year and it broke stripping away from the screw at one of the tension areas. Would not recommend this boom arm to anyone!!!

Tension tabs do not keep the arm(s) in place

Purchased one this evening, no matter how much you muscle the tension tabs to keep the arms in position, that arms will straighten themselves out. Maybe this one is defective, but for $100, it should simply work! Not worth the strength needed to turn a tension tab on this item, going back to the store!

Posted .Hello Cody. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Compass Boom Arm. I'm sorry you were unable to get the arm to stay in place. The Compass is designed to counter the weight of a microphone attached to the end of it. It is not made to stay in place without a mic, so no matter how much you turn the tension knobs, they will snap off before holding the arm in place if you don't have a mic attached. This makes for much smoother and quieter movement when set up correctly.

Won't hold position for anything.

If you don't have a heavy mic, and I do mean heavy, this won't hold its position whatsoever. I tightened the middle joint to the point where I snapped it because I couldn't get it to hold. This was a waste of money and I would never recommend it to anyone.

Boom Mic Arm

Not worth $100

But the blue Yeti wasnt even heavy enough for this boom arm. No matter how much i messed with it, it kept rising up even if i tightned everything with a tool. I wouldnt recommend.
