Fantastic For Slipknot Lovers

I was at first wary of the new album. I wondered if it would live up to Slipknot's normal standards, especially after their drummer passed away and Corey spent so much time on Stone Sour. But The Gray Chapter did not disappoint. The beats are still hard and heavy, and the lyrics are still filled with meaning. And of course there's no shortage of the famous Slipknot rage.

Slipknot's latest album finds the band regrouping after the death of long-time bassist Paul Gray and the departure of percussionist Joey Jordison (by all accounts, the driving force behind the 'Knot's intense rhythm section). Touted as a combination of the more aggressive sound of s/t & Iowa with the maturity and advancements of Vol. 3: The Subliminal Verses & All Hope Is Gone, .5: The Gray Chapter delivers to some extent by coming forcefully out of the gates on many tracks and the signature drumming that we've come to expect from these guys. However, while I'm glad to hear a bit more energy after the last album (which many argue featured a few too many songs that sounded like Stone Sour cast-offs), it seems as if they've taken up a step back from a musical and lyrical standpoint. The lyrics read like the diary of an angsty teenager, and the music doesn't offer any surprise the way the last albums did. Overall, all things considered, this is a good effort, but I guess we'll have to wait another 5 years or so before we can find out if the band is truly capable of delivering on the unfulfilled promise that it made for this album.

The Gray Chapter is on par with the rest of Slipknot's catalog. After hearing album previews in The Negative One and The Devil in I, I was expecting an album that rivaled Iowa. In the end it doesn't quite live up to that as the middle of the album fades after a strong opening. Overall I would place this above All Hope is Gone but slightly less satisfying than The Subliminal verses.

In this album, they channel all of the emotions that undoubtedly followed when losing a good friend and bandmate. Track for track, they honor their friend with a tremendously well put together tribute. An amazing effort that really shows the depth of the group; a listen from beginning to end is recommended (at high volume).

I'm not a huge Slipknot fan but I love Stone Sour and this album is more like Stone Sour than Slipknot which makes this by far my favorite Slipknot album. So if you're into Stone Sour you should own this CD! I haven't taken this cd out of my cd player since I bought it last month!

Who would have thought that after all the drama and tragedy that Slipknot has endured over t the last few years that they could still manage to not only release a coherent record, but also one of their best. If you're a fan of the band then you owe it to yourself to pick this up.

Another Metal album done well by Slipknot. The members of slipknot have done it again and made an album fans have been waiting for. Lots of heavy metal as can be expected from a 9 member band. Some new style of songs but mostly the great music fans enjoy.

Thought this new cd would be good. Although they lost a band mate they were able to put out music that honored him. They don't get as much AirPlay as they should - the best place to catch them is in Sirius radio.

Slipknot came back with a great album. After a long hiatus, the band came back together to put out a hard, emotional album for their late bandmate. Overall the album is one of my favorites.

The new music from Slipknot is awesome. The new members hold their own. I hate that Paul is gone and Joey is no longer with them but if your a Slipknot fan you'll love the new songs.

This CD reminds me of "Iowa", and "Vol. 3". After 6 years from their not so great "All Hope Is Gone" album, I am thoroughly impressed and glad to call myself a Slipknot fan again.

This CD is good. It has a lot of heavier songs than the past couple albums have but has a lot of melodic parts to it still. Overall a very good CD if you like this band

This was the 1st Slipknot CD I've every purchased. The 1st track is dark and spooky. There are hard and heavy tracks and hard and fast tracks. It's a solid CD.

Same fabulous speed and screech growling vocals, but much/cleaner and tighter than previously.
Still feels like Slipknot, only classier.
