These guys continue to get more awful as each CD comes out. Was hoping it would be better than the previous release....it's not! I will spin it a few more times to see if there's any hope, but blah!!!!!

I was expecting a better effort from this group, because they've been around for a while . It lacked a memorable melody on any of the tracks , thus , after listening I came away with a disappointed feeling from this group. Maybe, I'm wrong, but this was what I got out of it. Check it out for yourself to see what you get out out of it.

I have listenend to all and own the majority of the QotSA discography--I'm missing 'Lullabies to Paralyze' and 'Era Vulgaris'--and often try to discern the core sound that is Queens of the Stone Age. It's hard to pinpoint due to the somewhat heavy rotation of players backing Josh Homme, but I feel like it's somewhere between the self-titled debut, 'R', and 'Songs for the Deaf'. Like most people, I'm sure, I was first introduced to this band when singles from the aforementioned 'Songs for the Deaf' received rather heavy radio airplay, and I went out and bought the album. To this day, it's far and large my favorite, but I have a strong affinity to the other two albums I mentioned. This is a band I hate to love, largely because Homme is such an a-hole (do your research on his fallout with former band Kyuss) and also because I feel like this band is somewhat inconsistent and unstable, but it's hard to deny Homme's musical genius. With '...Like Clockwork', I feel like Homme, after a six-year hiatus from writing QotSA material, has gotten back to (what I feel is) the band's basics. This album is heavy, laden with Homme's signature guitar sludge that you can almost feel. This is owed, most likely, to the re-release of the band's self-titled debut that was followed by a tour of said album where it was played in its entirety each and every night. It's easy to understand why these guys are time and time again labelled "The Kings of Stoner Metal." Something else this album has in spades in superstar guest appearances. Whether it's Dave Grohl on drums, former bassists Nick Oliveri and Alain Johannes, Trent Reznor, or even Sir Elton John, this album has a little something for every QotSA fan, both long-time and new. If you're like me and have a hard time getting over 'Songs for the Deaf', key tracks to look out for are "I Sat by the Ocean," "My God Is the Sun," and "Smooth Sailing." These, to me, were the major stand-out tracks. The rest of the album is solid--heavy, but solid--and makes for a nice re-introduction to the world of Queens of the Stone Age.

Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme says that the title for their latest album sarcastically refers to the multiple problems the band faced during its writing and production - that everything went "...like clockwork." They'll have to forgive listeners if they're less than sympathetic, because the result of that strife is a fantastically tight album that puts QOTSA back atop the modern rock world. After 2005's dense, droning (and largely forgettable) "Era Vulgaris," - dubbed by Homme as the pinnacle of their "robot rock" sound - many wondered if the band had run dry of ideas. "...Like Clockwork" bridges to that era with the fuzzed-up opener "Keep Your Eyes Peeled" but then takes off in a completely different direction toward catchy hooks and twisting chords. While some production elements retain the exacting, synthetic tricks of the past, the material is free to roam in new and interesting directions - an important distinction from "Era Vulgaris." The result bears undeniable marks of QOTSA (6/8 time, slide steel guitars, wah-wah pedal, Homme's alternating falsetto vocals) but turns to classic rock for inspiration throughout. "I Sat by the Ocean" interplays guitar tracks like Heart, "If I had a Tail" channels the Stones like a new-millenium "Gimme Shelter," and "Kalopsia" (featuring guest vocals by Trent Reznor) sounds like vintage Bowie on steroids. The entire album reflects QOTSA's trademark bluesy, horror-movie-meets-circus atmosphere, owing a lot to The Beatles' "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite!" and "I Want You (She's So Heavy)." The track "The Vampyre of Time and Memory" modernizes these influences reminiscing Radiohead's "Exit Music (for a Film)." Overall, the result is by turns glam, moody, slinky, menacing, pounding, majestic - and pure rock throughout. You'll stomp your foot and grind your hips to each of the ten tracks. Lyrically, Homme was clearly (and understandably) guided by a near-death experience and lengthy convalescence after routine surgery and the subsequent creative block that he suffered afterward. Lines like "If life is but a dream, wake me up" and "Shock me awake / Tear me apart / Pinned like a note in a hospital gown / Prison of sleep" lay bare his personal struggles. Shame on Matador for the lackluster packaging for "...Like Clockwork." The art is supplied by Liverpool graphic artist Boneface, but there's scant little of it with the album itself. Several online promotional clips teasing the album set up a conceptual relationship between animated versions of Boneface's nightmarish vision and the music itself, but that promise is left unfulfilled with this package - basically a one-sheet leaflet with no additional art, lyrics or other content.

Another qotsa album that takes it to the next iteration. So many favorites on this, got a battle between this and Hesitation Marks for most played.

a few songs are kind of slow but overall good album
