This was movie of the year, and not because ti won the academy award but because it was beautifully shot and perfectly acted. Of course it introduced the larger world to Lupita, and Chiwetel was able to show that he can anchor a movie by himself. It's an emotional film, so be prepared, but one that needs to be watched.

This well-made movie is educational in that it offers a historical narrative of the experience of a race of people in our country. It is a reminder of what human beings are capable of towards their brethren. Hopefully, it urges us not to repeat this kind of history in the future.

This is a must see for all. It depics a part of forgotten history. Shows a history of greed , betrayal, and jealousy that isnt spoken about in our history books. I had know knowledge of this prior to watching this movey. Our whole family could not pull our eyes away. Heart breaking story

That it was the winner of the Oscar for Best Picture for 2013, is no mistake. This wonderfully written, directed, and acted motion picture shows the best of men and the worst of men and several ways in between. This is not only history but a lesson in humanity in the raw.

This was a great movie. It was very moving and brought me to tears. Its extremely sad to think that at some point people endured this lifestyle but it was also very informative and eye opening. I would highly recommend reading the book first before watching the movie, but the movie was great as well.

Steve McQueen's expert direction of Solomon Northrop's story is a treasure to behold. 20 Years a Slave will go down as one of the greatest historical dramas ever filmed. The emotional core to the story is centered around the character Patsy. This element brings the film to heartbreaking and realistic conclusion.

This was a very educational movie and although it was graphic and violent in nature, there were alot of things it touched on. I dont remember some of the things from my black history course but this movie didnt let me forget it. I recommend for everyone who hasnt seen it to go and see it as well as purchase it.

I believe all should see this movie. Great movie! I loved that it was a true movie. I liked the cinematography and the plot. I had heard a lot about this movie and had to see it for myself. I have watched it at least 5 times since I purchased it. I would highly recommend it to anyone to see. The story is great!

The events portrayed in this movie are devastating because they are true. As Americans, we are all aware that slavery is part of our history, but this movie shows us this unimaginable catastrophe close-up and personal. If you have the stomach for this part of our nation's history, then this is a must-see.

They pulled out all the stops for this. Between the editing, and the cinematography, the viewer is treated to an outsize vision of a powerful tale. Every scene jumps out at you and the acting forcefully evokes the arc of all the characters. Impeccable transfer of film to Blu ray.

I enjoyed this movie not only because of the excellent acting, but also because it was based on a true story. The courage and perseverance portrayed by the main character and many associated with him was awe inspiring.

This film won several 2013 film awards for a reason. No doubt this is an important, true story. Very difficult to watch in some segments of the film, only because of the horrors the main character had to face during his life. Great performances and very well written piece of American history.

This movie is one that I will watch over and over. The plot, location and actors were all very realistic. Because it was a true story, it could be used for dialogue for lessons in tolerance and diversity. It was most deserving of all the Oscar Awards it received. The price of the DVD was excellent.

This is a good depiction of events that were common during that time period.. It also makes you think about the status of African Americans in today's climate. We have not yet achieved equality, Not yet gained respect from all non-African Americans including those new arrivals to American shores.

Won THE Oscar for best picture... Enough said. Very emotional and sad movie, but so brilliantly put together. A must watch. Purchased the Blu-Ray but can't say I would watch it repeatedly, due to it's nature. Not something you can "enjoy" per-say. Definitely would recommend everyone to watch.

This is one of the best historic black movie I have review. This movie have educated me on this type of slavery. Being a black man and following slavery in history, I never knew free slaves in the North were kidnapped and returned to the south and resold. Amazing movie, must buy the book now.

Typically not a fan of slave movies even history related because too painful to watch. However, this movie was so well written, the storyline, actors, costumes, made it less painful and enjoyable to watch. Definitely recommend to others and a must addition to your library of greatest hits.

Generally, I found this DVD(movie) to be in short supply. Best Buy had it listed at the "best" price. Plus, it was shipped and received almost immediately without the expedited charge. Thank you Best Buy!

I feel bad at saying how much I liked this movie, because of it's content, but it had amazing acting and a great story about a man who was free and was unfortunately enslaved for 12 years. Thankfully it had a happy ending and it makes you appreciate life more.

I really enjoyed this DVD. Very informative. I really enjoyed it. I am very happy I can get old movies that are meaningful. Thanks!
